We have a great range of fencing battens for contemporary fencing. Below we have our most popular options but there are many more species to choose from. We have supplied battens UK wide and have worked with many Influential Landscapers. Our battens have different characteristics, price pints and aesthetic value and we are happy to talk you through suitable options. Our friendly team can help with the calculations required.

Venetian Fencing
Have you found us through social media?
We have showcased many of our battens on our social media pages and have worked with @Mark Marshall for many years. We have loved sharing your projects and will continue to do so. Send your images and videos of our timber to sales@egertonstimber.co.uk or tag us.
This trend has been very popular for a number of years and shows no signs of slowing down. There is however a HUGE problem when it comes to this style of fencing- ROOFING BATTEN. Now I wont go into a long rant about why it isn’t suitable, just take our word for it. Ditch the roofing batten, its cheap but looks terrible, you are wasting your hard earned money.
Our entry level batten is our slow grown 5ths Scandinavian redwood with square corners. We can send our battens UK wide, orders via the online shop are currently only possible within a 50 mile radius of our yard to contact our friendly team if you live outside of this area.
Key Things to Consider
Don’t forget the mainstays- additional vertical timbers need to be placed every 600-900mm at the rear of the fence, then pin your battens in place. Full framing is better and our team is happy to discuss this and we can help with the math!
If you decide to use a fabric membrane such as Landtex- read our disclaimed on its intended purpose and you can make an informed choice.
Brad nails are a good choice for fixing and we recommend the use of stainless steel pins.
Venetian fencing is stunning but its not the cheapest option out there. Materials START at approx £100 per l/m of 1.8m high fencing. Fancier timbers like Western red cedar can be 4 times the cost. Then don’t forget the labour!
Our smooth decking board makes a nice capping.
You can stagger your joins or space them evenly its entirely up to you.
Oiling or adding additional treatment can prolong the life of your fence and slow down the natural weathering process. We recommend Armour Flex or Wood Treatment by Barrettine. Avoid those big tubs of cheap fence paint, they will flake quickly. Don’t forget to allow any pressure treatment to settle before applying your product.
Add a minimum of 10% waste factor!
Our most popular product is our 5ths Scandinavian Redwood timber battens. The perfect choice for modern fencing designs.
Our team are happy to help advice on installation, aftercare and we can even help work out your quantities.
We can also have other lengths and finishes milled to order and this includes a higher grade of redwood known as Unsorted.
Shipping fees are calculated at the end of checkout. If you live more than 50 miles from our yard SK11 9LH please contact us for pricing as we will need to factor in long distance haulage. Currently only orders within 50 miles of the above postcode can be placed online.

Why can’t I buy Siberian Larch battens?
Due to the conflict in between Ukraine and Russia the supply of imported Siberian larch has dried up and the ethical standing on the sourcing of this timber means it is not currently available. European larch is an inferior product for this use (despite many merchants offering to sell it!) We have a small supply of Austrian larch available which can be cut to order but we would recommend Canadian Douglas fir as a suitable alternative at this time. These battens are on average three times the cost of our extremely popular redwood battens.
